TEAK

Teak originated in Southern Asia, but has long been cultivated throughout the tropical regions of the world. Young, plantation grown teak shows differences between the pale blond sapwood and darker heartwood that can create a dramatic striped effect. A durable hardwood, Teak is equally valued for its handsome appearance as well its strength, stability, and resistance to wear. Equally popular for indoor and outdoor use, Teak naturally produces oils and resins that help it resist the elements. When left outdoors, unfinished teak weathers to a beautiful, soft gray patina.

 

 

 

 

MANGO

Mango trees, although not native to Indonesia, have been cultivated there for many years. Once the old mango trees no longer bear fruit they are culled to make way for younger trees and the harvested wood is used for furniture making. A medium density hardwood, Mango has a beautiful rich grain that can vary widely, from straight, subtle markings to flashes of pattern akin to tiger maple. Spalting is fairly common. The color ranges from pale pink to tawny blonde, with smatterings of brown or gray.

 

Typical slab size: 8 -10 feet long x 24 inches wide. Longer slabs, up to 16 feet are not uncommon. Rare, center cut slabs may be as wide as 38″. As with all of our woods, a variety of finishes are available.

 

SONOKELING

**Limited to Current Stock Inventory. Sonokeling or Palisandre, also known as Indian Rosewood, is a very dense hardwood. Celebrated for its strength and dark beauty, it has been used for centuries for fine furniture-making. Sonokeling has rich color striations ranging from chocolate to espresso to shades of deep purple. When aged, it deepens to a more uniform color, whereas with young Sonokeling, the pale white sapwood contrasts dramatically against the dark tones of the heartwood.

 

 

 

 

INGAS

Ingas is a hardwood commonly found in Indonesia & Malaysia. Though occasional slabs may be subdued in color, more often Ingas shows a striking, painterly appearance. Sapwood ranges from blonde to pink, usually mixed, and the heartwood ranges from golden strawberry to fire-orange to dark russet. Unlike most species, the deep tones of Ingas heartwood appear not only in the center section, but often in vivid bursts of color that are also scattered throughout. Fallen Ingas trees may be salvaged from river & lakebeds; against the dark red of the aged wood these often bear intriguing patterns, tracings left by insects or imbedded bits of shells.

 

Typical slab size: 15 feet long x 20 to 40 inches wide. Shapes and sizes vary widely. As with all of our woods, a variety of finishes are available. 

 

 

TEAK ROOT

Older Teak, including salvaged and reclaimed Teak is typically a uniform warm golden brown “classic Teakwood” color. A durable hardwood, Teak is equally valued for its handsome appearance as well its strength, stability, and resistance to wear. Equally popular for indoor and outdoor use, teak naturally produces oils and resins that help it resist the elements. When left out of doors, the unfinished teak weathers to a beautiful, soft gray patina.

Typical size: Shapes and sizes vary widely. As with all of our woods, a variety of finishes are available.

 

From the source is dedicated to ensuring that our slabs are carefully sourced. We work with plantation-grown wood sources and also use reclaimed and salvaged wood.
